They take care to cut the seaweed from a rock with a sickle, leaving the “hold-fasts” attached, so it can draw nutrients from the sea water. Seaweed that has been torn from its “hold-fasts” or is washed up on shore is never used. Any seaweed harvested will re-grow fully within two years, making it a fully-sustainable, environmentally-sound crop.
